Extract from the Whisperprop Logbook

On 22nd April 2005 the „Whisperprop“ yacht began a promotional tour and extensive trials. The tour began in Holland, set course for South England, the Channel Islands and has now taken course south towards Spain. The main aim of this tour is to test, demonstrate and market the new DE-Whisperprop Drive. On completion the yacht will have completed a 3,000 sea mile journey.

Throughout the journey, on-board skipper and engineer, Jürgen Mertens spends most of his time with the diesel-electric drive. Numerous dates with shipyards, naval architects, journalists and potential customers have been planned throughout the tour.

Palma de Mallorca will be the final destination where the Bavaria 49 will remain during the Autumn and Winter months. Currently the „Whisperprop“ has reached the Portuguese coast. Up until now the journey has not been pleasurable for the crew. Unfortunately with May temperatures ranging from 12 -14°C it has been cold. The weather has improved now that the yacht has reached the Atlantic.

The electric drive has functioned very well under all conditions and has positively impressed many prospective customers. A newly fitted tail-thruster received a lot of attention. The yacht can turn on the spot using both thrusters and can be moved in any direction even with a strong side current or side wind.

Even in the narrowest and smallest ports, manoeuvring the 16 ton and 17 m long yacht is like child‘s play. It is always an incentive to put the yachts capabilities to the test in a harbour by trying to find the most difficult place to moor. The ease in which the yacht can be manoeuvred is something the crew has quickly become used to and no longer want to be without.
